Hi, Here is the work from today: In Act 1, Scene 2, the audience first meet Othello and view him as the antithesis of the animalistic savage he was portrayed as in the opening scene. Shakespeare conveys his true character when he is confronted by Brabantio and accused of witchcraft. Othello: “Keep up your bright swords for the dew will rust them” Shakespeare’s reference to swords shows that’s Othello is not a violent and irrational character as he orders Brabantio to put his sword away. By choosing the peaceful option shows that the accusations against him were false. Instead Othello chooses to attend court to prove his trust in his wife and that their love is true. Shakespeare also makes Othello sound intelligent and civil as he speaks in a calm and poetic way not roughly or rudely despite the unfair accusations. This encourages the audience to feel nothing but respect and admiration for Othello as we also see him prepared to not only sacrifice his name and position if his story is found false but also his life. Hope this helps.
