Bodybuilding
THE BODYBUILDING
Bodybuilding started way back in ancient Greece. The gymnasiums (Greek for “naked place”), was the place where the athletes of ancient Greece trained. They did not use strength training to change the form of their body but the means to improve the sport they participated in. In the 11th century India was Bodybuilding’s fist scene. Indians would use simple dumbbell weights carved out of stone and its purpose was to get bigger and get stronger. In the 16th century weight lifting had become a past within India. In the mid-19th century weight training meant developing health and boost strength, it was becoming very popular. People started to expose themselves to what was know as the Physical culture. Strongmen would travel and entertain the crowd by showing impressive strength such as lifting and pulling massive heavy weights. The most unforgettable athletes of them all were Olympic wrestling champion milo of croton, which apparently carried a calf on his back every day ‘till it became a bull. This showed improving strength. (http://www.historyofbodybuilding.org)
MUSCLE DYSMOPHIA
Muscle Dysmorphia is also known as “megarexia”, “bigorexia”, or “reverse anorexia nervosa”. Nowadays, action figures, men’s magazines, television shows and movies often show the ideal body for men. The imaged body for me is ‘v-shaped’ with muscular arms, a broad chest and a thin waist. This has most men and women being miserable/ disappointed with their body to create a more v-shaped body many men take part in weight training. This leads to a healthy lifestyle or benefits that brings men closer to the v-shaped body. Sadly, lots of men who lift weights also suffer body dissatisfaction. These men see themselves as weaker and smaller than they are. These guys are obsessed about their muscles and become addicted to weights training. These people suffer from body image disorder called Muscle Dysmorphia. Muscle dysmorphia occurs mostly with boys and men who have well defined muscular. People with this disorder believe and spent too much time thinking about there muscles and how it’s undersized and underdeveloped, it’s their desire to get bigger and better than they are. Muscle dysmorphia is caused by the lifestyle they lived/living in, mental and social factors. Based on genetics, some men are more liable to experiencing muscle dysmorphia. HOW LONG?
First things first…. just what the hell are we timing anyway?
CT Fletcher said, “there is no such thing as overtraining, it’s a saying for the lazy”.
(YouTube – CT Fletcher Overtraining “WHAT YOU DONE MUTHAF*$A?”) Bodybuilders have a routine. Some wake up so early around 5 am because they want thing done before they can go work or hang with your friend. While others tend to wake up around 9 am because it makes them feel more relaxed and more energized.
PROTEIN SHAKES VS LEAN PROTEIN FOOD
Protein powders can come in different size or shape. There three common powders that people use: whey, soy and casein protein. Whey is commonly used because it’s soluble in water/milk protein. Removing much of the fat makes soy protein powder and carbohydrates from dried, ground soybeans. The result is a protein-rich supplement popular with bodybuilders and other performance athletes. Casein is dairy protein and it has 80% protein found in cows. It has a very rich pool of amino acids, almost identical to whey protein, which is a byproduct of cheese.
LEAN PROTEIN FOOD
The top five highest protein foods are: Eggs, Dairy, Fish, Poultry and Meat, vegetables and grains. (http://www.shapefit.com) Protein is found in both animals and plant food. All other plant based source of protein lack one or more of the amino acids we need to obtain from our food. People who don’t eat meat products should include a variety of plant sources of protein every day to ensure they obtain all the essential amino acids.
CONCLUSION
These days bodybuilding is to improve body shape/strength. In my opinion people just workout (not like bodybuilders) are either improving sports or addicted.
The reason I chose this for my AVU was because I really admire their determination and responsibility. They wake up very early every day and sleep early every night.
I also found out that gymnasium is greek for “naked place” and bodybuilding started back in ancient Greece.
