Hi MUN-ers,
Okay, following discussions today I've had a look at the separate committees and each one will focus on two of the topics. These are as follows:
Disarmament:
Committee 1:
Rogue states and nuclear weapons
Biological warfare
Committee 2:
How to regulate the arms trade
Post-conflict demobilisation and demilitarisation
ECOSOC
Committee 1:
Microcredit Vs. foreign aid
Free movement of labour Vs. economic migration
Committee 2:
Deeper problems of linguistic minorities
Should there be an official world language?
Environment
Committee 1:
Can we create a universal form of sustainable energy?
Dealing with the world's landfill
Committee 2:
Should food be used for fuel?
Should we save endangered species'?
Health
Committee 1:
Vaccines Vs. Epidemincs
Creation of a UN charter for disabled people
Committee 2:
Are enough resources spent on mental health and happiness?
Taxation of unhealthy foods
Human Rights
Committee 1:
Welfare state = human right?
Cultural (in)tolerance
Committee 2:
How do we prevent the abuse of women?
Euthanasia = human right?
Political:
Committee 1:
Women's place in politics
Meddling in revolutions
Committee 2:
How do we resolve border disputes?
Does voting bring democracy?
Don't panic if you've already e-mailed a chair to say you are definitely in that committee - what matters is that you've e-mailed all 4 position papers anyway. I haven't officially declared names for each committee on the form either, we'll do that after discussing tomorrow.
Think about what committee you definitely want to be on and we will finalise tomorrow after school.
Meanwhile, brush up on the information on the Briefing papers and hopefully that should ensure you are familiar with each of your topics for debate. Message with any questions that you have!
