Hi,
You will be issued with a writing past paper. Your task for next Wednesday is to write a detail paragraph plan for one question (must allow you to write creatively) and to also plan is a lot less detail, 2 other questions. ;D

I'm getting my class to do the same kinda thing - cheers Mcf for the idea.
What I think makes a good plan is to give a summary of the situation the characters find themselves in and then bullet point how this is set up in the beginning, how it develops in the middle and how it is resolved in the end.
The key is to think about complications. A story happens when a character has their life turned upside down.
Shrek, normal life is Shrek in Swamp.
Complication for Shrek: all the fairytale creatures end up in swamp and he has to go on a quest to get rid of them - further complication, he falls in love with Princess Fiona - loads of complications later...he gets rid of creatures from swamp and story is resolved.
A short story really only needs one main complication and a limited setting.
So, I'd get busy thinking about situations a character could find themselves in. Think small as you don't have 50,000 words to resolve it in!
