Hello guys,
Post any questions you have here about your time capsule argumentative pieces - if you're stuck about what to say, or want to explain something more fully.
The idea for us is that
Tuesday - items 2-3
Thursday - items 4-5 and conclusion.
Good luck S3!

Conclusion -
In conclusion I believe the items I have chosen most truly represent the time we live in. I specifically believe ............ represents this time as ................
In the space, put your last item, and try to think of a reason to sum up what about your item that is so important.

Time Capsule
I believe that in the future the world will have changed in many ways. We might change in the way we eat, the way we look, our way of transport, the way we talk and maybe the way we walk. Because of this, it is important that we document the how we live. One of the ways in which people do this is by making a time capsule. A time capsule is a way of keeping things that are from a certain time altogether. If I were to make a time capsule containing things from 2009, I would put in an iPhone, a cigarette, a map of the world, dental braces and money. I will argue why I believe these things are important enough to put into a time capsule.
One of my first objects that I would put in my time capsule would be an iPhone. Firstly, this would show what our technology was like in 2009, showing that we everything in one small device, at the touch of our fingertips. This would also show that we wanted to be on top of everything in society and fashion. This also tells us that we were very demanding of latest things. Does this tell us that we are obsessed with things in society? This links onto my final point about our obsession with technology. We spend hundreds and hundreds of pounds just on technology, all in one go and we always demand things portable, in our pockets. We are also obsessed with newer and better things.
The second item I would put in would be dental braces. Firstly, this is what we used to fix up our misplaced teeth. Secondly, this tells us loads of things about us, our appearance and about being individual because we had different types of braces, with different colours on them. Most importantly it tells us that we are obsessed with looking good, if we think about it deeply then it is quite sickening because we are combining fashion and medicine together just to make us look better.
My third item would be a cigarette. Firstly, this would show what some people smoked to fulfill their addiction desires. It would also show what some people used to look cool or be popular. Secondly, this is what people wasted hundreds of pounds on, just a small thing, which is actually really harmful for you. This links onto my most important point about us taking drugs. A cigarette is a drug, which can actually kill you. Does this tell us that some of us are dependent on drugs or that we don’t treat them seriously?
My next item would be a map of the world. Firstly, this shows how the world looked like and it also shows how the world is split up. Secondly, it tells us that we think the world is complete, even though there still may be things left to discover. Most importantly, the map shows how many different cultures there are in the world, how many different countries there are and all the different types of religions, among the other things.
Finally, the most pertinent item that I would choose to put into my time capsule would be money. I believe that this item most represents the time that we live in. Money is the most important thing in our lives. All my other items are gained with money. Money also shows who the King or Queen was, it also shows who our leader is. With money there is everything, but without it there is nothing. We treat money so dearly and respectfully because of this. Most importantly, this shows our currency, the currency of 2009 and it also brands us as British. Could it be argued that money also causes most of the problems in the world?
In conclusion, I believe that the five items that I have picked most represent the time we live in. I feel that money is the most important, and I think it will tell people in the future about how we lived because it would tell people how important money was to us and it would also tell them how greedy and selfish we were.
