Hello Nice to see some of you have done as I asked and registered. Remember to post any questions that occur to you about your writing and I'll get back to you as quickly as I can. The ones I've read so far are great. See you all tomorrow...

I have been doing a bit of scouting around...here are some tips for those of you still plugging away. Most of them you know but they'll be handy to come back to!!
A short story should have:
*A single storyline, without sub-plots.
*Three or four characters at most.
*A single viewpoint, or two at most.
*A short time-scale.
*Consistent mood, tone and pace. (also- remember to read through your work and make sure the tense is consistent.)
*Appropriate language.
*Brief descriptions.
*Minimum background.
*Concise dialogue.
*No contrived ending. (a classic example of a 'contrived ending' would be the classic: 'And then she woke up and realised it was all a dream!' Aargh.)
On another note- I would like you to write below a couple of sentences explaining your reason for your song choice, and the direction you have taken it in.

Yes, Ryan, you're on. Congrats on being a youngling! Now you need to do the tiny task that has been set above- your song choice for the creative writing, and why you chose it. Then just a sentence explaining how you have decided to write the story of the song- a short summary of the plot. For example: 'I chose '1980' because it is a song that details the life of a young girl and her family and I was interested because it seemed biographical. I decided to write one day in her life, including one of the incidents mentioned in the song, when the family's neighbours set their house on fire on purpose.' Or something along those lines.

Heey miss i chose "every breathe you take" because i like the song, and i had thought of some good stories to write using the song. I wrote about a guy who had been dumped by a girl that he really loved and couldnt live without and he knew that she wouldnt want to be with him again so he kills himself in the end. It doesnt really go witht he song though. melissa

Next week at some point! I expect we'll get most/all of them finished in that period, then we can get on with Romeo and Juliet... before starting our next intrepid literary adventure!

Not as such- a short analysis of the opening sequence (the part we watched again on Wednesday). We'll be going through media terms first, too (camera, sound, lights etc etc- it might be useful to take a look at Mr Hollis' announcement on media at the top of this thread!) The Romeo and Juliet piece should only take a period to write in class, before the holidays (woohoo!), and then we'll be on to Of Mice and Men, which you will certainly write a nice long essay on. Have a good weekend everybody- and don't forget to post your songs! Share and share alike...
